How committed are you to your job search and advancing your career?

Today's posting is inspired by a video I saw on an article by Eric Spiegelman, The 10 Most Wonderful Internet Movies of 2010. The video is entitled, I Still Have A Soul. Take 2 minutes to watch the video now and think about your career development and/or job search while you watch it.

HBO "I Still Have A Soul" from Primal NY on Vimeo.

As you watched the video, what thoughts and words came to your mind? For me, I noticed the complete and total commitment that the hero made to realize his dream. He was homeless and wanted to be a professional boxer. So what did he do? He gave up every penny he had, the difference between eating and going hungry, to hire a trainer. He did whatever was needed to continue raising money and condition himself. Whether it was selling a prized possession or his blood, he was committed to success.

Do you have such clarity of purpose and dedication to reach your career goals? Perhaps you've spent tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on an education. Now what? Are you expecting job offers and promotions to just happen?

Another lesson of this video is to find someone to help you practice, to help motivate you, to analyze your moves and offer course corrections and to help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

If you are not getting the results you want in your job search or career advancement, it's time to start asking the hard questions about why. People have been and continue to find jobs and get promoted and get raises.  You can be one of them. Who is your career trainer, your coach?
