Remember that phrase. Whether you are looking to advance your career, find a job, increase sales or anything else you want to accomplish your attitude is is the starting point.
Dictionary.com defines Attitude as
"manner, disposition, feeling, position, etc., with regard to a person or thing; tendency or orientation, esp. of the mind".
Let's examine what might happen in the same situation only the person's attitudes are different. Imagine that you are out of work and you are about to have the first interview you have had in months.
Interview with a Negative Attitude
If you have a negative attitude you may be feeling like this interview is pointless. You're not going to get the job anyhow. Nobody hire anyone who is out of work. Or, you may feel you really need this job and will pretend to be excited about everything. What are some of the behaviors you will exhibit during the interview? Think about word choices and body language?
Depending on what your negative attitude is about, your words may be apathetic, aggressive. If you're pretending to be positive, that will come through with your body language and word choice as well. You will be seen as someone who is inauthentic.
Interview with a Positive Attitude
When you have a positive attitude about the interview, perhaps one where it doesn't matter to you if you get the job or not, you will appear more confident. When you are upbeat, people will want to be around you. They will want you on their team. You will connect with them to a greater extent, especially if they are positive people too. Your words will be exuberant and powerful.
Positive or negative attitude also affect you with your job and career path too. What is your attitude toward your employer? Direct manager? How does you attitude filter every interaction you have with them?
What are the attitudes of the people who are around you-colleagues, friends, family members? What is the affect of their attitude on you?
